Sustainability

We’re different and it makes a difference—Change does not come from big resolutions but by taking small steps.

At the heart of our ongoing efforts toward sustainability is the belief that the private sector is an indispensable partner for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Also known as Global Goals, SDG was a blueprint initiated by the United Nations in 2015. World leaders agreed to this vision which covers human livelihoods, corporate environmental governance, and nature conservation.

At Klee, we work to incorporate SDGs into our business practices in the following ways:

Perfect Nutrition from Imperfect Foods

Food waste is causing a huge environmental impact,  all while a large portion of the planet is food insecure. Because of this, it’s a goal in UN SDG 12.3 to reduce food waste and food loss by 50% by 2030. There are around 1.3 billion tons of food waste per year, with more than half occurring outside of households— Imperfectly shaped fruits and veg are often rejected by supermarkets due to appearance, although flavors and nutrients in the produce are just the same. We thus decided to tackle the food waste issue head-on by making an impact right from the source.

When selecting and sourcing for our products, we lay great emphasis on the efficacy of the ingredients, rather than the look. Hence we proudly partner with pest-free and chemical-free contract farms, and through processing & testing, elicit genuine nutrition your body will love. Meanwhile, we are moving up a notch by altering how we deal with the leftovers. Take VIVETA® RES, the resveratrol supplement we produce as an example, careful processing of grape skins is conducted once the extraction completes. This ensures every bit of nutritional value is preserved, ready to be repurposed and up-cycled.

Reducing the Distance that Food Travels

From the farm-to-table trend to locally sourced ingredients in our industry, support for local farms and communities isn’t going anywhere for very good reasons. Utilization of local ingredients cuts the transportation distance and thus effectively reduces carbon footprint. Known as food miles, the distance that food travels can add to a number of the environmental problems we are facing globally.  This is why we opt for fresh produce harvested from local farms to avoid unnecessary diesel usage and fumes emission.

Local produce is also more nourishing. When cultivated and harvested locally, crops are picked at the peak of ripeness which guarantees utmost nutrition, no preservatives needed. Also, they are often grown with organic and natural pest repellants, unlike large-scale agricultural operations that are often mass sprayed with pesticides.

Do Individually Well, Be Collectively Great

At Klee, we are devoted to co-creating a happy work environment with our employees. Zero tolerance of discrimination, harassment or injustice is not a policy, but a culture here.  Here, everyone’s voice matters.  Every individual brings something exciting to the team.

One Planet. One Team Klee. We have been on a shared mission to offer wholesome, genuine ingredients that not only benefit our body but also the place we live in. And it is teamwork that fuels our passion toward the goals of sustainability.
